The Straight Story

ストレイト・ストーリーと言うのは素晴らしい映画で、ぼくは大好きなんだ。

年をとることに関してのセリフの部分を知りたくて探した。
なんと英字の字幕版がアップされていた。

3分39秒の辺り

Alvin Straight: You don’t think about getting old when you’re young. . .you shouldn’t.
若い頃は年をとるなんて考えもできないものだ。

Cyclist #1: Must be something good about gettin’ old?
年をとっていいことってなんですか？

Alvin Straight: Well I can’t imagine anything good about being blind and lame at the same time but,
目も足も弱っていいことなんて無いよ。

still at my age I’ve seen about all that life has to dish out.
強いて言えば、この歳になると人生で色々なものを見てきているからなあ。

I know to separate the wheat from the chaff,
重要なものとそうでないものが見分けられるようになる（籾殻と実を分ける方法を知っている）。

and let the small stuff fall away.
些細なものは下に落ちていく。

Cyclist #2: That’s cool man. So, uh, what’s the worst part about being old, Alvin?

年取って最悪なことは？

Alvin Straight: Well, the worst part of being old is rememberin’ when you was young.
若い時の自分をいつまでも忘れられないことだ。

検索したら、セリフのページが有った。

ストレイトの娘役の人（シシー・スペイセク）がキャリーの人だっのか。
ビックリである。

時折見直すが、いい映画だ。

人生の最期に、帰る所はどこにあるのだろう。

この心境になるのは後20年かかるかねえ。
